Potassium bromide is one of the reagents commonly used in black and white and archival photography.
Component of many developers, especially the halide used in the synthesis of the photosensitive emulsion.
It is also an emulsion stabilizer (antifogging agent).
Kalium bromatum or Kalium sedativum is a pharmaceutical raw material intended for use in pharmaceuticals in reception areas. It is still used frequently (despite toxicity). Produced 5-10% aqueous solutions for oral administration (solutiones) and mixtures (mixturae) with another pharmaceutical raw material, e.g. Gardenalum Natrium, Barbitalum Natrium, Tinct. Convallariae maialis titrata, Tinct. Chelidonii, Mentholum valerianicum, Neospasminum, Nicethamidum, Chloralum hydratum et al.
Not so long ago very popular dosing powders, Pulveres Kalii sedativi cum Lupulino, , which were used as anti-aphrodisiac, were prepared.
